BioSquare Building D
Project Type: Biomedical Research (TI)
Service: Coordination, Modeling
Client: Cannistraro / Boston University
Stats: 140,000sf / year: 1998-1999
State-of-the-art, LEED-certified biomedical research facility located within Boston’s renowned BioSquare Campus.
Home to cutting-edge research facilities, classroom space for the medical campus, a vivarium, and a hematology lab.
Before 3D and BIM were common practice, Prefix (then Spectrum Design) modeled and coordinated the whole project from 2d design documents as part of the Cannistraro team.
After initial work, Prefix worked with the owner and GC to detail the model and complete coordination.
Modeling and Coordination
The upper floors included office and lab space, with mechanical equipment on the roof.
During the coordination process, Prefix modeled and tested several changes for the project team, including changing risers from closets to valves.
Prefix modeled and coordinated work stations with highly detailed equipment and racks. Particular attention was paid to valve access for lab spaces.
Mechanical Room - Maximum detail
Roof-top Mechanical room included
shock absorption pads.
Steam station
Heat exchangers, boilers, valves, etc
All equipment was modeled from scratch from manufacturer specifications. Access to valves was critical, so Prefix ensured each hangar and chain where correct and accessible.
